Novelest ("we," "our," or "the Platform") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and what choices you have regarding your data when you use our AI-powered creative writing platform.
We collect information you provide directly to us, including your name and email address when you create an account, profile information such as your display name and avatar, creative content you write and store on the Platform including manuscripts and worldbuilding entries, and payment information processed securely through Stripe when you subscribe to a paid plan. We also collect information automatically, including device type, browser, and operating system, usage patterns such as pages visited and features used, IP address and general location data, and error logs and performance metrics to improve the Platform.
We use the information we collect to provide, maintain, and improve the Platform and its features, to process your writing through AI features to generate suggestions and assistance, to manage your account and subscription, to send important service-related notifications, to detect and prevent fraud, abuse, or security issues, and to analyze usage trends so we can improve the user experience. We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
When you use AI-assisted writing features, portions of your content are sent to third-party AI providers (such as OpenAI) to generate responses. This content is transmitted securely and is used solely to provide the requested AI output. We do not use your creative content to train AI models. You can use the Platform's non-AI features without sending any content to AI providers. Please review the privacy policies of our AI providers for additional details about their data handling practices.
Your data is stored in secure, encrypted databases. We use industry-standard security measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS) for all data in transit, access controls and authentication for internal systems, and regular security reviews. While we take reasonable precautions to protect your data, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.
We use the following third-party services to operate the Platform. Authentication providers (Google, GitHub, Microsoft) handle sign-in securely through OAuth, and we receive only your basic profile information. Stripe processes payments, and we do not store your credit card details on our servers. OpenAI provides AI writing assistance, and content is processed per their API data usage policies. Each of these services has its own privacy policy governing their handling of your data.
We retain your account data and content for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will remove your personal information and content from our active systems within 30 days. Some information may be retained in encrypted backups for a limited period. Aggregated, anonymized data that cannot identify you may be retained indefinitely for analytics purposes.
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have certain rights regarding your personal data. You may access and export your content at any time through the Platform. You may update or correct your account information through your profile settings. You may delete your account and associated data by contacting us. You may opt out of non-essential communications. If you are located in the European Economic Area, you may have additional rights under the GDPR, including the right to data portability, the right to restrict processing, and the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.
We use essential cookies to maintain your session and authentication state. We do not use advertising cookies or third-party tracking pixels. Analytics data is collected in aggregate form to understand Platform usage and improve features.
The Platform is not intended for users under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected data from a child under 13, we will take steps to delete that information promptly.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by posting a notice on the Platform or sending you an email. Your continued use of the Platform after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
If you have questions or concerns about this Privacy Policy or your data, please contact us through the Platform's support channels.
